Why "Movement Matters"
Movement Matters was created by Alexis Richens from a simple belief: when we move, we feel better. In the middle of busy routines and long hours spent sitting, movement can easily be overlooked. Inspired by a desire to bring more opportunities for dance-based movement to Bermuda, she created a space for people to reset the body, refocus the mind, and reconnect through movement.

Movement Matters was created by Alexis Richens, a dancer and movement instructor passionate about helping people reconnect with their bodies through movement.
Alexis Richens began her dance training at the age of four in Bermuda and attended several dance intensives hosted by the National Dance Foundation of Bermuda in partnership with American Ballet Theatre. She later graduated cum laude from Jacksonville University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. Alexis taught at DanceSations for several years before joining Jackson’s School of Performing Arts as co-owner in 2019. She has choreographed and performed for Bermuda Civic Ballet and, in 2025, performed in New York City with the Tempo Salsa Pro Team at the B.I.G. Salsa Festival.
Alongside her dance career, Alexis has a passion for fitness. She has several years experience teaching fitness classes and is Exhale Barre certified. In 2024 was crowned Overall Bikini Bodybuilding Champion at Bermuda’s Royal Grand Prix, later placing 2nd in her class at the Bahamas Caribbean Grand Prix.
Through Movement Matters, Alexis brings together her love of dance, fitness, and movement to create welcoming spaces where people can step away from daily routines, move freely, and experience the physical and mental benefits of movement.
